We are incredibly vulnerable on our little ball Planet Earth. And it’s great to be reminded of that.
The New York Times makes incredible videos. This one, “Raining Fire / Out There” shows stunning footage of our sun, considered a “boring” star because, as far as universal terms go, it’s fairly stable. Except when it’s not.
According to the video, solar flares peaked last year, but are still “dangerously high.”
“Earth has escaped a direct hit so far,” says the narrator. “But scientists remain wary. Eternal wariness is the price of living with a temperamental star.”
