Despite what the tabloids want you to think, celebrities are not just like you and me.
Case and point: Beyoncé posted pics on her blog yesterday of her very casually wearing a gold Apple Watch, along with some questionable choices in headwear.
As noticed by Apple Insider, she was wearing the watch at Coachella (that explains the outfit). The “yellow gold Apple Watch Edition with custom all-gold link bracelet” is not available to the public. MacRumors estimated that the watch is worth “upwards of $25,000.”
“Beyoncé is just the latest celebrity to be caught wearing Apple Watch in the wild, seemingly as part of a strategic advertising campaign targeting young, fashionable buyers,” reports Apple Insider.
Getting celebrities to wear your brand is nothing new to drive sales. Apple has also gotten Drake, Pharrell and Katy Perry to put on Apple Watches, Apple Insider states.
But this special gold style of Apple Watch has only been spotted on two celebrities –Beyoncé and fashion designer Karl Lagerfield. But that’s it. No one else on Earth has them at this point. At least that we know of.
Apple started charging credit cards on preorders yesterday, as Apple Insider reports, and will start shipping them later this week. We reported that while initial online sales were around 1 million units the weekend the smartwatches went on sale, you won’t be able to buy the watches in stores until June.
