AppSheet’s tool, which lets companies build their own custom mobile apps without writing code, now has more than 30,000 users across 150 countries.

The company’s key differentiator is that its apps pull data from spreadsheets businesses are already using. A customer saves a spreadsheet to the cloud, tells an app which cells to pull and add data to, customizes the interface and then distributes the software to anyone who needs access via email.

AppSheet has been around for a about a year, and is now used by small businesses, non-profits like Habitat for Humanity and large enterprises like Sprint. Customers have created apps for things like tracking inventory, creating to-do lists for field workers or sharing home listings with real estate clients.

Between this seed funding and previous Seattle-area angel investments, the company has now raised a total of $2.1 million.

With the funding, the startup plans to grow its employee headcount, keep building out the product and grow its international user base.
