LAS VEGAS – Samsung took to the press conference stage today at CES to announce their latest 4k TV’s, coining a new moniker where there is alreadya  confusing array of buzzwords: SUHD.

SUHD takes advantage of nano-crystal semiconductors that create pure reds, blues and greens, reducing the need to filter out unwanted colors. More simply, the set has more vivid colors, higher contrast and deeper blacks than previous sets.

Samsung also employed the well-known designer Yves Behar to design one of the massive sets. His design treats the TV as a sculpture, with a unique cube pedestal base that houses the brains and audio for the TV, keeping the display as thin as possible.

Maybe it was the glitzy presentation or purposefully dramatic demo material, but up-close the picture quality was pretty stunning. The new lineup will feature sizes from 48″ to 88″ and run the open-source Tizen platform.
