How much does landing a role in a Star Wars film affect an acting career?

American University’s Kogod School of Business took a look and made this terrific infographic comparing Star Wars‘ lead actors total career box offices to that earned from Star Wars alone.

The Kogod number-crunchers wrote:

“So what does Star Wars have to do with data analytics? Tell you, we will…Analysts can predict a film’s success based on past data, including how well the genre is performing, the popularity of starring actors, and box office receipts from previous iterations of the film.”

The analysts looked at the box-office tallies of 23 actors to see how being in Star Wars affected their star appeal — or ability to make bank in Hollywood.

While Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher boast healthy box office earnings from other films, you’d be surprised to see A-listers like Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor coming in about half and half.

The big winner? Samuel L. Jackson. It appears that it pays to be friends with Quentin Tarantino. Jackson’s non-Star Wars box office earnings are astronomical.

If the frenzy surrounding the upcoming The Force Awakens is any indication, actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac can look forward to a long and lucrative career.

Star Wars is set to break box-office records — and many expect it to unseat Avatar as the highest-grossing film worldwide of all time.
