GW calendar logoComputer science education week, an annual program designed to inspire kids to code, kicks off globally Dec. 7. As part of this initiative Seattle’s CoderDojo is hosting an Hour of Code event at Amazon’s South Lake Union headquarters on Dec. 12.

dojologoKids eight and up are encouraged to attend. No experience is necessary, as CoderDojo offers a variety of tutorials and lessons. Parents can register their children for free here. A printed ticket is required for admission.

uw seminar series“Being Human in a Big Data World: Human-Centered Data Science,” a talk by UW Professor Cecilia Aragon

What: “In this talk, Cecilia Aragon will discuss and explore some of the particular sets of problems and challenges sociotechnical researchers face with regards to small-data versus big-data tension, and seek ways of overcoming (or at least identifying potential solutions to) these problems and addressing the challenges.”
