Zillow employees walked away with a nice little holiday gift last week, as the executive team rewarded each of its 1,200 staffers with a Kindle Fire HD6 Tablet.
In cobalt blue, no less.
The $99 tablets were provided as part of the company’s staff meeting and holiday party, an annual tradition at the fast-growing Seattle online real estate company. The Kindle Fire HD sells for $99, which means the shopping spree cost the company upwards of $120,000.
In addition to the tablets, each employee received four free e-books on their tablets, titles that were personally recommended by CEO Spencer Rascoff.
They were:
- The Tipping Point – by Malcolm Gladwell
- Lean in – by Sheryl Sandberg
- Creativity, Inc. – Ed Catmull
- Built to Last – by Jim Collins
Last year, Zillow gave employees a Fitbit. And next year, the company may have to fork out a little more cash, since Zillow is in the process of acquiring San Francisco-based Trulia for $3.5 billion, more than doubling its work force.
Zillow’s holiday generosity struck at least one former Amazon employee who now works at the company.

Amazon is known for its frugal culture, and Bezos minimized the importance of perks such as Google’s free massages at an event in New York earlier this month.
