Trulia is attracting new visitors to its mobile apps and Web site, thanks in part to a new national advertising campaign. The San Francisco-based online real estate company, which also operates a large office in the Seattle area, thanks to its acquisition of Market Leader, said today that it expects to finish April with nearly 50 million unique visitors, an all-time high for the company.

The company, which competes against Seattle-based Zillow, also posted record revenue of $54.5 million for the quarter. That was better than analysts’ estimates. Trulia, which finished the quarter with $221 million in cash and cash equivalents, also boosted its revenue targets for the year to $250 million to $253 million.

However, the company disappointed Wall Street with a bigger loss than analysts anticipated. Trulia showed an adjusted net loss attributable to common stockholders of $5.3 million, or 14 cents per share. That was a loss two cents higher than analysts expected.

The stock lost a bit of ground in after hours trading, following an eight percent surge earlier in the day.

“In Q1 we added more than 7,000 subscribers, which is a record for the company and continues to demonstrate the momentum we are gaining amongst agents who want to connect with transaction-ready buyers and sellers,” said Pete Flint, Chief Executive Officer of Trulia. “In the real estate category, agents want to be in front of the most qualified consumers where they receive high quality leads. We now have approximately 66,700 agents using Trulia to drive their business, build a pipeline of clients and close more deals by reaching the nearly 50 million unique visitors that are expected to come to Trulia in the month of April.”

Flint said that the company’s marketing effort is now in high-gear as they enter the busiest time in real estate, spending up to $45 million on the ad campaign. “We are off to a fantastic start in 2014,” he said.

Zillow, which recently topped 76 million monthly visitors, plans to release its earnings on May 7. Here’s more from the Trulia earnings report:
