As if we didn’t have enough problems with people moving to the Pacific Northwest due to global warming, it appears we’re also the best place for Santa, too.

Seattle-based real estate website Estately conducted a study to determine the 10 best states for Santa to relocate to. Apparently, his operation is in danger because the North Pole is melting. The highly scientific factors considered by the study included:

1. Cookie stores per capita
2. Suitable habitat for reindeer
3. Locals employed in manufacturing
4. Enthusiasm for eggnog
5. Percentage of residents with last name “Kringle”
6. Facebook interest in Santa Claus
7. Milk production per capita.

Washington topped the list because of our drinking habits: “When it comes to eggnog consumption, there’s no state that’s more enthused for this alcoholic holiday beverage than the Evergreen State. Santa should have no trouble creating holiday cheer by imbibing with others in this classic cocktail.”

No word yet on how the Kringles of Iowa are taking the news.
