googlesignGoogle today launched a tool that features a “mobile-friendly” tag for websites in search results.

Now, when searching for something on Google’s mobile site, you’ll be able to tell which sites are designed to work well on your smartphone or tablet. Google has an algorithm that combs each result and determines if it meets certain criteria, like avoiding Flash, having text that is readable without zooming, using links that are far enough apart, and sizing content to the screen.

For webmasters concerned that their website is not showing up as mobile-friendly in Google search results, Google has a guide that can help you out.

The new mobile-friendly tag will roll out to users globally over the next few weeks.
