Amazon is pulling out all the stops to build the anticipation for its mystery event in Seattle next week, widely believed to be the unveiling of its smartphone.

GeekWire, which will be covering the event, received a package from the company today with a copy of the children’s book, Mr. Pine’s Purple House, and a note from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to attendees.

“We’re excited that you’ll be joining us next week in Seattle,” it reads. “Enclosed is my favorite childhood book — Mr. Pine’s Purple House. I think you’ll agree that the world is a better place when things are a little bit different. See you soon.”

For anyone who hasn’t read it, the book by Leonard Kessler is about a man who keeps trying to make changes to his house to stand out from all the homes on his block. The implication, of course, is that Amazon thinks it has something very different to offer with its new device — which is supported by the reactions from customers in the teaser video previously released by the company.

The phone has been reported to use a variety of sensors and cameras to enable new ways of interacting with the device.

So can Mr. Bezos stand out on the smartphone block? Check back next week for the conclusion of this story.
