GoSmart, T-Mobile’s pre-paid phone service, just got a whole lot more attractive for heavy Facebook users.

The company announced today that it will be allowing users to access Facebook and Facebook Messenger over cellular data for free, even if a customer doesn’t have an active data plan.

The deal would appear to be a win-win: T-Mobile gets to attract more users to GoSmart, which was unveiled in February, while Facebook gets to expand its reach to users of pre-paid cell plans, many of whom wouldn’t be able to pay top dollar for a smartphone data plan.

“Facebook`s mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected, and we`re delighted that GoSmart subscribers, many who don`t have data access, will be able to use Facebook for free,” Chris Daniels, Facebook’s Vice President of Partnerships, said in a press release.

T-Mobile recently announced that it would be unveilling its “Uncarrier 4.0” program at CES in early January, which is rumored to include an offer to pay customers back for the cost of leaving their contracts with other carriers early.

All this comes amid swirling rumors of potential acquisition bids for the Bellevue-based carrier from Sprint and Dish Network.
