techtunes

Updated below with answer and winner.

You’ll immediately recognize the jingle in this week’s Name that Tech Tune challenge. You’ve no doubt heard it many times before, you probably know the name of the company that made it popular, and you’ll therefore understand why we chose it this week.

But this time around, we’re challenging you to dig a little deeper — not just identifying the song, but also answering a related trivia question: For what instrument was this tune originally composed?

Up for grabs is a pair of tickets to Geektoberfest, a special meetup scheduled for Oct. 10 in Seattle with GeekWire and DoubleDown Interactive. From the pool of correct answers, we’ll pick one person at random to win the tickets.

OK, here is this week’s tune …

Told you it would be familiar! If you think you know the name of the original instrument (hint: not the one that’s playing it here) send it to contest@geekwire.com.

Name that Tech Tune is a regular feature of the GeekWire radio show, which airs on KIRO Radio in Seattle (97.3 FM) at 7 p.m. every Saturday, except when pre-empted by live sports. The show runs every weekend on GeekWire.com.  Also search for the show on Stitcher.

Once again, send your answer to contest@geekwire.com. We’ll give the answer and name the winners next week. Thanks for playing, everybody!

Update: The answer: guitar. Here’s the backstory from the Wall Street Journal. Congrats to our winner, Chris Sasaki.
