Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer nearly lost his Whidbey Island vacation home yesterday due to a scary mudslide that forced evacuations and damaged one house.

About 90 minutes north of Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond, a massive 500-yard landside hit at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, bumping one house off its foundation and destroying a road.

Ballmer property was not threatened, but it was actually used to save a man. The owner of the house that was knocked off its foundation was stranded because of the damaged road, so emergency workers were forced to cut through Ballmer’s property in an ATV to reach the man.

No injuries have been reported.
