kiroradioIn case you haven’t heard, GeekWire is trying a new experiment at our meetup Thursday evening: It will be the first time we’ve ever recorded our weekly KIRO-FM radio show on stage in front of an audience, and we’re excited that so many of you will be joining us for this adventure.

Ever wondered what it’s like to record a radio show? What do we really do during the commercial breaks? Here’s your chance to see, and take part in the experience as a member of the audience. We have a ton of fun doing this show every week, and it’s going to be even more fun to share it with all of you.

As opposed to our usual last-minute scramble, we’ve been working well in advance on this one, and we’ve lined up a ton of entertaining and informative guests and content (see below). Plus you’ll have a chance to win great prizes (such as an iPad mini courtesy of sponsor DoubleDown Interactive) in the live version of our popular Name that Tech Tune contest.

Last-minute tickets are available for purchase here or below. If you’ve already signed up, these are the key details to know.

Location: HUB Seattle in Pioneer Square, 220 2nd Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98104. See this page on the Hub Seattle site for directions and parking information. Street parking is free after 6 p.m. NOTE: There is a Seattle Mariners game on Thursday night, so make sure to arrive early or take public transit.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m. for networking and mingling, DJ’d by musical guest The Icarus Kid. The taping begins at 6:30 p.m.

Food and drink are included in the price of admission.

What to expect: The event will provide a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making the GeekWire radio show, which airs each weekend as part of the great weekend lineup on KIRO-FM in Seattle, and reaches thousands of people via podcast, iTunes, Stitcher and GeekWire.com. Barring any technical glitches — cross your fingers — this is the show that will air this weekend across the Seattle region.

The Show: After some quick opening remarks, we’ll jump right into the show with our “Week in Geek” news roundup, followed by special guest Mike McSherry, the former Swype CEO, sharing his insights on the direction of the mobile industry. Then it’s our App of the Week segment, featuring Tom Leung of Yabbly, followed by the closing Name that Tech Tune segment, featuring Nintendo mix master The Icarus Kid.

Important note: GeekWire Members are automatically signed up for this and other GeekWire events in 2013 — no need to register separately. You’ll receive email reminders in advance of each event. For more information and to purchase an annual pass, see our membership page.

Thanks to our meetup sponsors, DoubleDown Interactive, Postmates and Outlook.com; to our partners at KIRO Radio for their support; and to the HUB Seattle for being a great host.

Grab those tickets if you don’t already have them, and looking forward to seeing everyone there tomorrow night!
