Good news for the thousands of folks who have been disconnected for the past week in the San Juan Islands northwest of Seattle: Your Internet and phone service should be back in action.

CenturyLink said today that it has restored Internet and phone services to the island, repairing an underwater fiber-optic cable that severed last week. The cause of the broken cable is still unknown, but CenturyLink said earlier this week that an earthquake may be the culprit.

The lack of Internet and phone service led San Juan County to declare a state of emergency this past Friday. It was like “some post-apocalyptic scene of people standing around with laptops, hungry for internets,” one person who was there told us last week.

CenturyLink was able to institute a temporary fix to restore local, long distance and 911 phone service on the islands shortly after the cable severed, but now have permanently fixed issues with Internet and voice connectivity.
