It’s official: there are some new Apple products set to be unveiled next week.
The company sent out invitations today inviting select members of the press to a Sept. 10 event at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. The tag line in the email reads: “This should brighten everyone’s day.”
Apple is expected to announce an update to the iPhone 5, as well as a new, lower-cost iPhone with a plastic shell. In addition, they will probably announce a final release date for iOS 7, which was first shown off at this summer’s Worldwide Developers Conference and should come pre-installed on the new phones.
For those of you keeping track, the date of the announcement matches up with a report issued by AllThingsD last month.
If you’re looking for a new iPad, though, you’re probably going to have to wait. While we’ll probably see new tablets out of Apple this fall, they appeared in a separate event last year, and I don’t expect that to change.
This news comes right after Microsoft announced its acquisition Nokia’s Devices and Services business to better compete in the smartphone market.
