Tens of thousands of people have descended on downtown Seattle for the annual Penny Arcade Expo, or PAX, the annual “Woodstock for gamers” that draws people from around the country for three days of gaming, panels, concerts … and tons and tons of cosplay.

And it’s is only getting bigger. Speaking at the opening Q&A session, Penny Arcade’s Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins  said the event will extend to four days in Seattle next year, and expand internationally with a new PAX Australia. No official word yet on when the PAX Australia will be held.

Born in the Seattle region, PAX already has a PAX East event in Boston, but it has been reluctant to expand to Europe because of the potential impact on the Eurogamer Expo, Penny Arcade business chief Robert Khoo told us in an interview last year.

GeekWire is on the scene, playing lots of games and talking to lots of gamers … and you can get a sense for what Day 1 is like by clicking on any image to open a gallery below. The sold-out conference runs through Sunday at the Washington State Convention Center.
