Gearing up for the release of Halo 4 this fall, Microsoft has released the official trailer for “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn,” the live-action online series that will tell the story of the events leading up to the plotline of the game. The trailer debuted at Comic-Con in San Diego last night.

Microsoft has been trying for years to make a full-blown feature film based on the Halo franchise, without success. Depending on how the web series is received, this could be a stepping stone to theaters. Microsoft has tapped an experienced director, Stewart Hendler, along with “a diverse cast of established and up-and-coming Hollywood talent.”

The series will debut online on Oct. 5 on Halo Waypoint and the Machinima Prime YouTube channel. It will be rolled out in five 15-minute episodes leading up to the release of “Halo 4” on Nov. 6.

Admittedly, I’m not the most discriminating viewer, but the trailer hooked me — I’ll be tuning in when the series debuts. What do you think, will you be tuning in?
