The Foundry Group partners performing “I’m a VC”

Foundry Group, the Colorado venture capital firm that’s backed Seattle area upstarts such as Big DoorSEOMoz and Cheezburger as well as Portland-based Cloudabilityannounced today the closing of their third fund — Foundry Venture Capital 2012 LP. The fund clocks in at $225 million, the same amount that it raised in its previous fund. Foundry Group invests in software and IT startups across the U.S.

Led by Ryan McIntyre, Brad Feld, Seth Levine and Jason Mendelson, the firm prides itself on its thematic approach to investing, rather than being geographically driven.

Since 2010, it has invested in more than 150 companies, and it will be interesting to see how many Seattle startups will be on the receiving end of Foundry’s support in the upcoming months.

Brad Feld routinely visits the Pacific Northwest, and is expected to be back in town next month for a book signing. Feld is the co-author, along with Mendelson and Twitter’s Dick Costolo, of Venture Deals: Be Smarter Than Your Lawyer and Venture Capitalist.

The Foundry Group also is well known for its goofy sense of humor, as evidenced in this hilarious rap that the partners starred in last year. We wonder: Did they use this in their pitch presentations to investors?
