Michelle Wilson, the  general counsel of Amazon.com since 1999, will step down from the position next month, taking a parental leave to care for a newly adopted child, a company official told GeekWire this afternoon.

She will be replaced in the role by David Zapolsky, currently Amazon’s vice president and associate general counsel. Zapolsky is another Amazon veteran, also having worked for the company since 1999.

Wilson is expected to return to the company in a different, unspecified capacity after finishing parental leave. A veteran of the law firm Perkins Coie, she was originally hired as the company’s associate general counsel for finance and M&A but quickly rose to the position of general counsel.
