Amazon.com plans to unveil its much-anticipated Android app store on Tuesday, according to a report in Wired. There’s been plenty of speculation in recent weeks about the online retailer’s plans to create an online destination for Android applications, similar to Apple’s app store for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad applications, and an alternative to the Google Android Market.

Earlier this week, a German online news site, AndroidNews, discovered what appeared to be an early version of the app store at http://www.amazon.com/apps.

According to a price comparison on the site, which is no longer publicly available, some apps in the Amazon store will be slightly discounted from those found in the Google Android Market, AndroidNews reported.

App makers appear to be gearing up for the launch.

Earlier this week, Rovio — maker of the blockbuster Angry Birds game franchise — said that it planned to release its latest game for Android, Angry Birds Rio, via an exclusive arrangement with the new store.
