Are you coming to the GeekWire Gala on Dec. 8? Here’s one of the surprises we’ve been working on.

Everyone who attends will get a GeekWire 2012 Calendar, a special project we’ve developed in partnership with the talented team at Red Box Pictures, with the support of a great lineup of sponsors.

As you can see from the sneak peek above, it’s pretty great. The GeekWire 2012 Calendar features “Geeks who Give Back,” honoring people who make significant contributions to the region’s tech community — with a portion of sponsorship proceeds going to Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity, improving the lives of hospitalized children through “the power of play.”

That’s one of our honorees, Erica McGillivray from GeekGirlCon, in her GeekWire Calendar photo above. There are more than a dozen others who will be recognized as part of the project. Who are they? Come to the GeekWire Gala Dec. 8 at Seattle’s Union Station to find out, and to meet them. We’ll also be honoring the top 25 “Newsmakers of the Year,” many of whom you’ve been reading about in the pages of GeekWire over the past few weeks.

With hundreds of people from the Seattle tech community attending, it’s shaping up to be an epic night.

A great roster of sponsors is joining with us to support the calendar and the GeekWire Gala. A big thanks to event platinum sponsor, Zillow, gold sponsors Bing, KING-5 and Filter, and silver sponsors Facebook and Startup Weekend — along with calendar sponsors Gist, Big Door, Comcast, Summit Law, Project Bionic, Barokas PR, Zillow, Filter, and ThinkSpace.

Our sponsors will continue the calendar theme at the event. Zillow is recognizing National Umbrella Day (2/10) with umbrella-themed fun and games at its station, well-suited to the Emerald City. Courtesy of Zillow, the first 500 drinks at the gala will be served with a color-coded bumbershoot; exchange this party favor for an associated prize at the Zillow station by the stage.

Also at the event, Filter will celebrate National Star Wars Day, 5/4. (“May the Fourth be with you.”) Star Wars characters will challenge you with trivia from a galaxy far, far away. Visit the Mos Eisley inspired cantina, where correct answers score you an extra drink ticket.

Bring a soft toy to top off Jenni Hogan’s mobile tweetup “Toys for Tots” drive, and get an extra drink ticket courtesy of Heinz Marketing. As part of the event we’ll also be honoring our GeekWire Newsmakers of 2011, many of whom will be there.

Our gift bags will include the 2012 GeekWire calendar, plus $20-off gift cards from Uber. And if you want to travel home in style after the gala, Uber will provide a special discount to our attendees.

Important note: People have been asking us how to dress. It’s a gala, but this is Seattle. Feel free to get fancy if you’d like, but there’s no need to be formal. Look for team GeekWire to be there sporting the red and black colors.

In short, you don’t want to miss this. Tickets are available here. We’re looking forward to seeing you Dec. 8!
