Soccer ball in the corner pocket!

The playing field is 24 feet long by 12 feet wide, featuring artificial turf, faux cherry borders, and oversized pool pockets in the corners and side rails. Your leg is the cue. Soccer balls, pool rules — a fusion of two familiar games into a whole new experience.

We’re calling it GeekBall. The field is under construction as we speak. And that’s how serious we are about having fun at the GeekWire launch party, the evening of June 22 at the Showbox SODO in Seattle. Tickets available here.

GeekBall will be the centerpiece of the event, but it’s just one of the activities in the works, with the help of sponsors Big Fish Games, Gist/RIM, Kobo, thePlatform, Filter, Decide and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. The evening will feature special games, high-tech prizes, and good food and drinks. (Thanks to our sponsors — geeks of the highest order!)

We’re also thrilled to announce that NBA great and Husky basketball star Detlef Schrempf will be among the luminaries joining us. He’ll be taking on three challengers in a shoot-out we like to call G-E-E-K (the game of “horse” is so five minutes ago).

On the GeekBall field, teams of two will be able to challenge each other throughout the night. You’ll have to be there to be eligible to play. Watch for more information in the coming weeks. And to get a better sense for the game in the meantime, see this alternative version staged by some beer company that you might have heard about.

Spectator and participation sports will be the theme of the GeekWire launch party. No speeches, just games. Come out to trash talk, cheer on your colleagues, and most importantly, connect with friends and meet new ones. Trust us — you won’t want to miss it! Get Your Geek On.
