Intellectual Ventures announced another patent licensing deal this morning, this one with Wistron, the large technology manufacturer based in Taiwan. The agreement gives Wistron access to Intellectual Ventures’ portfolio of patented technologies as well as the ability to use IV’s patents to defend itself against patent claims.
Wistron, the former Acer manufacturing unit, creates products sold under the brand names of other companies.
It’s the latest in a series of licensing deals struck by Bellevue-based Intellectual Ventures, the controversial patent holding firm and invention house run by former Microsoft chief technology officer Nathan Myhrvold. Other big companies involved in similar deals with IV include RIM, HTC and Samsung.
Intellectual Ventures now says it has more than 35,000 intellectual property assets, which is up from more than 30,000 earlier this year.
