Amazon.com is quickly becoming a sizable player in the booming and competitive market for local deals. The company announced this morning that its AmazonLocal deals marketplace will be expanding into New York City in the coming weeks, offering special offers from merchants in Downtown, Midtown, Uptown, and Brooklyn.

Examples of deals to be offered in New York include 50% off tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s newest show, Zarkana; $13 for $27 worth of cupcakes at Brooklyn Cupcake; and $15 for $30 worth of groceries at any Upper East Side Gristedes.

Here’s hoping they add a bagel shop to the list soon.

AmazonLocal launched earlier this year, working in partnership with LivingSocial, the daily deals company in which Amazon.com is an investor. The AmazonLocal service leverages Amazon’s established customer base, allowing users to purchase deals using their existing Amazon account.

With the expansion into the Big Apple, the service is now in 30 locations and 10 states, according to the company. Other major markets include Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and, yes, Amazon’s hometown of Seattle. More cities and states are on the way, according to the company.

Amazon says AmazonLocal will also start offering deals in the coming weeks from its affiliated sites, including 6pm.com and MYHABIT.com.
