In the 2-minute trailer for his new Amazon Studios television series “Crisis in Six Scenes,” it only takes Woody Allen 15 seconds to make it all feel like a Woody Allen film. That’s a good thing if you’re a fan of the legendary director.
In his first-ever stab at television, Allen stars, of course, as a television writer in the 1960s-era comedy. In a scene with his barber, Allen’s character says he’s working on an idea for a television series. The barber responds as if he’s seen all of Allen’s work.
“Oh, I see. The usual dysfunctional family with the wise-cracking wife and kids and much-harassed husband kind of thing?”
Elaine May stars as Allen’s wife in what Amazon describes as a tale about a suburban family whose “life is turned upside down by a surprise house guest.” That guest is played by Miley Cyrus.
With counterculture talk of marijuana, bra burning, tear gas, Black Panthers and more, the trailer manages to go all-in on the ’60s look and feel.
Amazon Prime members can start watching “Crisis in Six Scenes” on Sept. 30.
