snapchat54You may soon be able to watch live sports on Snapchat.

That’s the latest update from Digiday, which reported today that Snapchat is in talks with NCAA and Turner to show live action from this year’s NCAA basketball tournament via its “Our Story” feature.

Our Story” is essentially a compilation of Snapchat user photos and videos from the same event or location. It’s a neat tool that gives remote users a vibe for what’s going on at a given event. For example, currently there’s an “Our Story” from the Paris Fashion Week.

Snapchat has done something similar for the World Cup and college football games. Now, Digiday reports that Snapchat wants to show live sports action in these “stories” and ink media-rights/ad revenue deals with the sports leagues. This would also help Snapchat avoid any copyright issues from the leagues when it comes to recording live footage at a game. Digiday notes that Snapchat wouldn’t incorporate live footage from the TV broadcasts, but focus 100 percent on user-generated content.

It’s certainly an interesting move from Snapchat, which has quickly turned into a massive media platform — or, as an ad agency exec told Digiday, “Snapchat is turning into the SportsCenter of cultural moments.”
