25068_video-games_nintendo-digital-slides-mariomaker-2You can now buy the download codes to Mario Kart 8, Animal Crossing: New Leaf and a host of classic Nintendo games through Amazon. Nintendo 3DS and Wii U owners can head to a new storefront on Amazon to purchase a handful of new and old games.

The new selection includes pre-orders for games like Super Mario Maker, hit games like Super Smash Bros. and Nintendo’s Virtual Console line, which are classic Nintendo games like The Legend of Zelda ported for the latest consoles. All games appear to be offered at full price.

After adding the games to their carts and completing their purchase, customers are taken to the Nintendo Network website. Once they log in, the game will automatically download to their console or handheld device.

Nintendo has historically been hesitant about adding new purchasing options for its gaming systems, but has more recently toyed with ideas of opening up their approach. While Xbox and Playstation owners have been able to purchase digital download codes for some time, Amazon and Nintendo haven’t been so cooperative. Nintendo’s consoles were only available through third-party sellers on the retail giant’s site until recently.
