Consider it the Google Street View of the ocean floor. This week, the U.S. Geological Survey posted thousands of images from the U.S. coastline online.

The images from the Pacific, Atlantic and Gulf Coasts are easy to peruse. According to the LA Times, “most of the areas covered in the new imagery have never been seen before.”

And while the database is intended to help scientists along the coasts better understand habitats and seafloor composition, especially when monitoring events like rising sea levels, earthquakes and tsunamis. The collection includes about 100,000 photos, 1,000 hours of video and covers nearly 2,000 miles of coastline.

For undersea buffs, it’s pretty cool.
