Sports fans have more options to buy tickets than ever — particularly at the last minute.

Just a few days ago, we wrote about ReplyBuy, a startup that lets fans purchase tickets with a simple text message reply. Now, Twitter is offering a way to purchase game tickets directly on its platform.

As noted by Re/code, the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks are offering a “limited number” of playoff tickets to Wednesday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets “exclusively on Twitter”:

Those interested can buy up to four tickets and enter their credit card information directly within Twitter. The payment processing is enabled by Flightly Commerce, an official Twitter Marketing Platform Partner.

Twitter first began testing an e-commerce product on its platform back in September, allowing people to purchase t-shirts and concert tickets from their feed. The company has been slow to fully expand the service, however, and this is the first sports-related ticketing partnership we’ve seen.

Twitter has brought on employees with expertise in the e-commerce industry over the past few years as the company seeks new ways to create more revenue and advertising dollars.

It will be interesting to see if these ticket offers catch on with Twitter users, many of whom use the service to stay up-to-date with their favorite sports teams and athletes. We’ve reached out to Twitter for more details about revenue-sharing and partnerships with other sports teams, and will update this post when we hear back.
