When science, entertainment and technology come together, it’s a beautiful thing. Discovery is embracing all three, as fully demonstrated by its launch of its new VR project.

The first Discovery VR videos focus on diving with sharks, learning to surf and survival skills. The subject matter is awesome enough alone, but adding the 360-degree VR element to popular programs, like MythBusters and Survivorman, takes it to whole new level.

Per Discovery VR’s site, “Virtual Reality can take you to new worlds like never before, immersing you in time, space and story. Here’s a first look at our latest productions in this exhilarating new space — from shark-infested shipwrecks to freeboarding the windiest street in the world — with much more to come.”

There are nine total experiences right now, and let’s just say that they are all mesmerizing.

The videos can be viewed on your desktop, but the most immersive VR experience will come from downloading it via the app for iPhone or your Android device — and wrapping that little Google cardboard gizmo around your phone. You can also use it with Samsung’s Gear VR. Discovery VR is also coming soon to Oculus.
