Walmart and Amazon are two giants in the world of retailing, one started off in the physical world and the other online.

But today those two lines are blurring more than ever before, according to Walmart’s Doug McMillon who was interviewed at the Code Conference.

“Clearly, Amazon is teaching the world what’s possible,” said McMillon, who was named CEO four months ago.

While those words may be interpreted as a huge compliment to Amazon, it that doesn’t mean McMillon is letting up on the gas. During the interview with Recode’s Kara Swisher, McMillon made several comments about his company’s rivalry with Seattle-based Amazon.

Since Jan. 1, he’s taken three trips to Silicon Valley, where the company operates its labs, and he says he considers himself a student of technology.

The comments were transcribed live by ReCode’s Jason Del Rey.

Walmart is the largest company in the world with revenues of $473 billion, but it has a long ways to go to catch up to Amazon online. Recently, the retailer’s online revenues grew faster than Amazon’s for the first time in 10 years, but Amazon’s online sales are still six times larger the $10 billion Walmart recorded during the same time periods.

On home grocery delivery: He doesn’t know exactly which geographies where it will work, but Walmart is focused on delivery in London and possible Shanghai.

On the competition: It’s not just Amazon, Walmart CEO says he has a long list of competitors, including Kroger, Costco.

Other interesting areas of tech: 3D printing, wearables and connected home. “In some cases we may make acquisitions,” McMillon said.

Devices and entertainment: McMillon says he isn’t sure about having to produce their own shows, like Amazon, but they’ll be partnering — not making — their own devices.

Mobile commerce: McMillon said “we’re seeing that 10 percent of our mobile orders are happening in a store.”
