mobilegamesmobida1If you’re set to release a new mobile game and would like to see more traction, Android might be the best platform for you.

That’s one finding from a study conducted by Vancouver, B.C.-based mobile analytics firm Mobidia, which looked at engagement and usage patterns for the leading mobile games during 2013.

The report noted that aside from a few exceptions, mobile games had a higher penetration rate on Android than on iOS since because there are more blockbuster hits on iOS, which “increases fragmentation and decreases penetration per app.”

“Android is still lagging behind iOS when it comes to the release cycle of big-ticket games and, as a consequence, the games that become global hits on the platform face less competition over users’ time and attention,” the report noted.

Once exception to this pattern was the popular Candy Crush Saga game, which had a higher monthly penetration rate on iOS over Android. In fact, the average Candy Crush player spent four hours per week playing the game, making it the most popular game of 2013 according to Mobidia’s statistics.

Mobidia’s data comes from millions of global smartphone users who opt-in via Mobidia’s app. You can download the full report here.
