Pack your bags, Mac users: it’s time for a trip to Yosemite.

As a part of its press event in Cupertino today, Apple Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi announced that the company plans to release OS X Yosemite, the latest update to the operating system powering Macs worldwide, today.

IMG_0245Yosemite comes with a number of improvements over its predecessor, including a completely re-vamped design that brings the Mac more in line with the principles behind the look of iOS 7. In addition, it sports Continuity features that make it easier for people to connect their iOS devices with their Mac and do things like easily share documents between devices and make phone calls directly from their Mac.

Mail received a number of improvements as well, including support for a Markup feature that lets people quickly edit photos and easily insert their signature into documents. People who send large attachments will also enjoy the Mail Drop feature, which allows them to send attachments up to 5 GB in size using iCloud.

In addition, the update brings support for iCloud Drive, Apple’s updated cloud storage service that will allow users to store anything they want in a folder that’s synced through the company’s servers to all their devices.

The update will be available for free through the Mac App Store today. Stay tuned to GeekWire for more information about Apple’s latest OS.
