appleeventlogoApple fans, mark your calendars.

The company will be holding a major announcement on September 9, according to reports from Re/code and Bloomberg.

Like other September events, Apple watchers (myself included) expect that the company will take the opportunity to unveil the new iPhone 6, which is supposed to sport a larger screen compared to its predecessors. In addition, Apple will likely announce a final release date for iOS 8, which it unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Apple announced the iPhone 5s on September 10 of last year, and the phone was released to the public on the morning of September 20. If that schedule holds up, the iPhone 6 should be ready for purchase on September 19. iOS 8 will probably come out on September 17, which will give existing users some time to play with it before the launch of Apple’s new phone.

It’s unclear what else might be included in the announcements, though Apple executives have said that the company plans to enter new product categories this year. There have been a host of rumors tied to an iWatch or other wearable device, as well as a refresh of the Apple TV set-top box, though nobody can be sure if either product will make an appearance at this announcement.

The reports today come less than a week after an earlier report claiming that Apple was preparing for an event in mid-September.
