Getty Images wants to make it possible for photo buffs to have that one picture they always wanted.

Today, the Seattle-based company launched Photos.com, a site that allows consumers to buy prints of artwork from the Getty collection for their own home. The printing is done by New Era Portfolio, and customers can choose from a variety of materials for their print, including canvas, paper and aluminum. Customers can find work by photographer or by subject matter, so it’s possible to find whatever someone is looking for.

The service also features work from Getty Images photojournalists who have captured news events from around the world. The company says it will continue to expand the available images over time.

Photos.com isn’t necessarily a service for the budget-conscious consumer, though. Prices start at $90, and I’ve yet to find an image I’m interested in on the site that costs less than $120. Much like other art print services, different materials carry different prices, so users can expect to pay more for a framed print than a printed sheet of canvas stretched over a frame.

Today’s announcement is part of a continuing move to make Getty’s collection more accessible to a wider audience, not just people in the photography and publishing businesses. In March, the company began allowing bloggers to embed images from its collection for free.
