Amazon SVP Brian Valentine retiring from company

Brian Valentine, the senior vice president of Amazon’s e-commerce platform for the past seven years, is retiring from the Seattle company next month.

An Amazon spokesman confirmed the news to GeekWire this afternoon. The spokesman said the teams managed by Valentine will report to other senior leaders at the company.

Valentine, 54, was previously in charge of Windows engineering at Microsoft — earning a reputation as a strong leader in the Windows 2000 and Windows XP eras.

The timing of his departure from Amazon might seem intriguing to people following the Microsoft CEO search, so just for the record, in case anyone is wondering, he is not believed to be among the potential candidates to replace Steve Ballmer.

No word yet on Valentine’s future plans, but we’ll update this post if we hear more.

    MSFT CEO…perfect!

Uh, yeah. No way he would be MSFT CEO.

I remember him at MSFT. He was pure awesome sauce. He would be a great CEO at MSFT; unconventional to say the least, but that’s what MSFT needs right now.

All the other CEO candidates that have been offered up would bring uber-boring MBA style approaches to an already boring company. He would definitely breath new life into the company.

BV is going to take a much needed vacation and take Bussell Wilson for a spin around the country.
