Amazon is opening up more office space not only in its hometown of Seattle, but also overseas.

The company announced today that it will take up to 431,000 square-feet in a new 15-story office building in London’s Shoreditch neighborhood that will be ready by 2017. The space will have room for more than 5,000 employees, who will join the 1,700 already working for Amazon in its two U.K. offices.

“Our city is the perfect home for top tech talent and I am very pleased that Amazon have confirmed their intention to create thousands of new jobs at a major new base in east London,” said London Mayor Boris Johnson.

The new London office announcement comes one day after we noted Amazon’s plan to construct two buildings in Seattle on a block near the company’s new 3.3 million square foot campus in the Denny Triangle area that’s currently under construction.

Amazon has been gobbling up land near downtown Seattle for the past few years to accommodate its explosive growth. The online giant plans to build three 38-story office towers and an eye-catching three-sphere biodome on the new 3-block campus that it acquired for more than $1.1 billion, which will compliment Amazon’s current headquarters campus in South Lake Union.
