amazonsignageA group of UK consumers calling themselves Amazon Anonymous have vowed not to shop at Amazon for the holidays, and their campaign continues to gain traction, according to reports by Galleycat and Mashable.

The Amazon Free Challenge is asking UK consumers to spend their pounds elsewhere. The impetus behind the boycott? “They don’t pay their workers a Living Wage. They dodge their tax. They take money away from our local shops. So this year, let’s take our money away from them,” reads the group’s website.

To date, the site reports that their group of consumers have prevented about $5 million from being spent at the retail giant. Each person who signs up pledges to withhold approximately $150.

“The response so far and the support we’ve received has been quite staggering,” Bex Hay, one of the cofounders, told Mashable.

The campaign is a result of Amazon Anonymous’ call for Amazon to pay its workers a “living wage.” The campaign is also in protest of Amazon’s tax status and impact on local businesses. Earlier this year, the same group delivered about 65,000 signatures calling for a living wage to Amazon’s London offices as well.
