pizzahutMicrosoft’s Xbox 360 started with video games before expanding to movies, television shows, music, live sports, interactive politics and all manner of digital entertainment.

And now it’s getting into the pizza business.

Pizza Hut is launching a new Xbox Live “Create Your Pizza App” that brings its online ordering service to the Microsoft console, letting gamers order pizza, pasta, wings, breadsticks and other food from the pizza chain for delivery or pickup. The app lets users store their account information for fast ordering, to get back quickly to their games.

This is a real quote from a Pizza Hut press release announcing the news: “With today’s avid gamers and busy modern families gathering around their gaming consoles as much as they gather around a dinner table, we felt this was a natural next step for Pizza Hut as we continue to own the digital ordering experience for pizza lovers everywhere.”

The app will officially launch Tuesday at an event on the Microsoft campus.

Aiming to generate usage of the app, Pizza Hut is offering 15 percent off an order to Xbox Live users who download the app and place an order by May 6. Other promotional features include local deals — offers targeted specifically to particular users based on location.

And yes, of course, there’s an option to navigate the menu and order with Kinect gestures, using the Xbox 360’s motion controller. Just in case you want to burn a few calories while ordering that 14-inch Crazy Cheesy Crust Pizza.

Pizza Hut has been a pioneer in online ordering, dating back to 1994, when the company claims one of its pizzas was the first item ever purchased on the internet. The company has ordering apps on iPhone, iPad, Windows and Android in addition its new Xbox app.
