hovercraftbubbaWhile golf clubs, balls and other accessories have been upgraded over time, there’s one part of the game that’s stayed pretty constant: the golf cart.

Oakley, PGA Tour star Bubba Watson and a hovercraft company may have accidentally just changed that.

First off, watch the awesome video above, which has garnered nearly five million views in less than a week. It features the world’s first hovercraft golf cart — a.k.a. the BW1 — that rides on a bubble of air and skims across the fairways.

“Let’s have fun,” Watson says in the video. “Let’s go through the water hazard, come off the other side by the green, putt your ball in the hole, then drive back across the water hazard. Who doesn’t want to do that?”

Oakley, who sponsors Watson, had a company called Neoteric Hovercraft refit one of its $20,000 base models to build the geeky golf cart for a viral video that could build some brand awareness.

But now, since Oakley and Neoteric have received so much attention for this— one man wanted to buy 100 of them — they’re actually considering partnering with each other to bring the hovercrafts to market.

All I know is that I really, really want to drive one of these things around on the links. I’m pretty jealous of the Today Show’s Al Roker and Matt Lauer, who got a chance to ride the thing earlier this week.
