halo4_2d_pegi_boxshot_tif_jpgcopyIt’s safe to say Halo 4 has been a success thus far.

After raking in a record $220 million on launch day back in November, Microsoft just said Halo 4 has seen more than 11.6 million unique gamers log in and play.

We reached out to Microsoft to get a confirmation on that number and clarification for what the 11.6 million actually accounts for. Here’s what they told us:

The 11.6 million figure encompasses all unique users who have played “Halo 4” while connected to Xbox LIVE, including guest accounts. There was a typo in the PAX Halo panel slide – the figure includes all connected users who have played any mode in “Halo 4” (i.e. campaign, Forge, Spartan Ops, etc.) – not just multiplayer.

The announcement was made at PAX East this weekend, where employees from 343 Industries shed light on some more stats and new features.

If anyone is counting, there have been 11.7 billion kills, 388 million headshots and 193 assassinations since launch.

343 is also introducing new features for Halo 4, including a skill ranking system that matches players based on achievements and a new “Forge Island” Map.

New premium content will be available next month, with a ‘Castle Map Pack’ set for release on April 8.
