Are the short days and cloudy skies getting you down? Need a break from that long coding session? Or, are you just a plain-old-fashioned gaming dork?

Don’t worry. GeekWire is here to help.

Yes, we’re busting out our favorite board games — along with some modern classics for the Xbox 360 Kinect — for the first-ever GeekWire game night and meetup. We’ll be taking over the Spitfire Bar & Grill in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood on Wednesday, February 8th at 5 p.m. for what promises to be a thrilling competition of gaming madness.

If games aren’t your thing, don’t worry as there will be plenty of old-school social networking occurring in the main bar area.

Devoted Settlers of Catan fans — including yours truly — will be taking over the north terrace of the bar where we’ll furiously engage in the trading of wheat, ore, wood, brick and sheep to become GeekWire’s celebrated Lord of Catan.

The back room will showcase the Xbox 360 Kinect, with GeekWire’s Todd Bishop and Rebecca Lovell trotting the two-step and tango to the tunes of Dance Central. The south terrace will be our gamer’s paradise where individuals can bring and share their favorite geeky games and entice others to play.

This is a 21-and-over event with a no-host bar. There’s a $5 entry fee to cover some light snacks, prizes and other goodies.

It is also BYOBG: Bring Your Own Board Game. Seriously, given the number of geeky game players in Seattle, we encourage everyone to bring their personal versions of Catan, Risk, Magic or whatever strikes your fancy. (We especially need extra copies of Catan).

We can’t guarantee there will be enough players interested in your specific game title, but we’ll do our best to get everyone matched up.

We’ll break into teams around 5:30, and play until the winners are announced. You can register here for the GeekWire Meetup and Game Night. See everyone on February 8th!!

UPDATE: Great news. The good folks over at Card Kingdom plan to stock our gamer’s paradise area with a full slate of fun card and board games, including The Resistance, Revolution!, Ca$h n Gun$, The Red Dragon Inn, Dixit, King of Tokyo, Telestrations and Sneaks and Stitches.  We’ll also be giving away those games (and more) as prizes for top performers that night.

A big thanks to GeekWire Game Night sponsor Hotmail for helping to make this meetup possible. Additional sponsor opportunities available by contacting GeekWire’s Rebecca Lovell at rebecca@geekwire.com.
