I’m headed to Los Angeles on Monday for Microsoft’s mystery announcement, and we kick off this week’s GeekWire radio show and podcast by examining the possibility that the company will be coming out with its own branded tablet to rival Apple’s iPad and possibly even Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

Then we round up the highlights of Apple’s announcements earlier this week at the Worldwide Developer Conference, providing a glimpse of Mac OS X Mountain Lion and iOS 6, the next versions of Apple’s operating systems.

And we have fun discussing the news that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is an investor in Chris Hansen’s bid to build a new multipurpose sports arena south of downtown Seattle, aiming to attract an NBA team back to the city. It’s just the latest connection between technology and sports in our city.

Other topics on the agenda include John’s visit to the Northwest Pinball and Arcade Show, and the theory that Amazon should buy Coinstar.

Our App of the Week is the 5-0 Radio Police Scanner, and our Name that Tech Tune contest offers a chance to win a 30th Anniversary Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse, complete with a framed certificate of authenticity.
