Technology is everywhere today, and the Internet has made many things possible. We can now find any information and entertainment resources we want online: books, music, videos – you name it. More and more users are going online every day, searching for even more information. What’s driving it and what consequences will it bring?
Cisco and Nokia Bell Labs Forecast
According to a recent Cisco report, worldwide online traffic will have tripled by 2020, and the number of Internet users will have grown to 4.1 billion. The main reason for such rapid growth? The popularity of video hosting services like YouTube and Vimeo. Check out these predictions:
In 2015, video hosting sites attracted 63% of global Internet traffic.
By 2020, this number will have grown to 79%.
It’s not really a surprise that these numbers are growing so big.
Nokia Bell Labs predicts a big increase in IP traffic – by 2022, it will have reached 330 exabytes. There is a simple explanation for this: users want videos of higher quality, a well as virtual reality videos, and those high quality video files are BIG. The company also predicts that, by the year 2020, 3 trillion minutes of video will be streamed every month – that’s 5 million years of video a month. HD and Ultra HD video streaming will deliver approximately 82% of all video traffic.
This increase in video content usage is enabled largely by increased Internet connection speeds. Both broadband networks and the mobile Internet are now so fast that it is possible to upload and download videos from any part of the world in no time. And this will grow even more – up to 50.4 Mbps.
Enormous YouTube Growth
Since so many people are interested in video content, they don’t just ‘Google’ or ‘Bing’ it, they go directly to video sharing websites. This makes YouTube the second biggest searching engine after Google and third most visited website after Google and Facebook. Plus, it is available in 76 languages! The stats of daily views and session time are unbelievable and these are growing every day too.
Why?
YouTube provides huge amounts of content for both entertainment and information. Music videos, ads, how-to guides, vlogs (video blogs) on a myriad of topics draw users from over 88 countries around the world. Vlogs are growing rapidly in popularity too. Creating this kind of video requires some solid video editing skills, but not everyone has the time to master professional programs or scour through the hundreds of programs available.
Making High Quality Content
If you are just beginning the climb towards YouTube video blogging stardom, you’re probably wondering where to start. First, decide what your video is going to be about. A tutorial? A game walkthrough? Or a travel vlog? Your possibilities are almost infinite, so find your niche.
Next, you will need a video editor that’s relatively simple to get started. YouTube is full of videos in which the creators use special effects like Chroma Key, Picture in picture and other effects. These techniques may seem out of reach for the amateur filmmaker, but it is actually not that hard. Simple tools for montage, stunning decorative elements (titles, stickers, filters, transitions, callouts), and professional-looking special effects – this is all you need for your first movie, tutorial or vlog post.
Movavi Video Editor (or Video Editor Plus for the more adventurous among you) will be a great place to start. The program is really simple to use, so you can concentrate on the creative process more without worrying too much about execution. There is a great collection of tools for video editing and audio adjustment, plus built-in resources that will give you a great starting point for filmmaking. And sharing the result is even easier: you can upload your video straight to YouTube, as well as save in any convenient format.
Video audiences love quality content and they have everything they need to get it – fast Internet connections, trusted sources, and the tools to create content themselves. Technology is more advanced than ever and it’s only going to accelerate even more. Soon, everyone will have an opportunity: to make, upload and access impressive video content from anywhere in the world.
