When it comes to resilience, the Pacific Northwest sets a high bar. Weathering storms isn’t just a seasonal reality here: It’s a mindset.
That’s why it’s no surprise that in the face of turbulent skies for the tech world—valuation pressures, lean venture funding, and fewer IPOs—our region didn’t just survive; it flourished. In 2024, the Pacific Northwest evolved into a thriving ecosystem of more than 1,400 startups, charged by the electricity in the air from tech giants. These companies are proof that here, lightning can strike more than once. It’s a recurring phenomenon—and the next big hit could happen at any time.
Honoring the fastest-growing companies for more than three decades
At Deloitte, we recognize the importance of celebrating companies that have endured tough challenges, transformed headwinds into opportunities, and landed on top. For the last 30 years, Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 program has recognized the most innovative and fastest-growing companies in North America. This past November, we announced our 2024 Technology Fast 500 winners, each making an outsized impact on the tech sector. This year’s winning companies were selected based on percentage fiscal year revenue growth from 2020-2023.
Living and working in the Pacific Northwest, I am constantly inspired by this community and thrilled to announce that 17 companies from our region were selected. Among them are organizations both large and small, privately held and public, across domains including hardware, software, gaming, fraud protection, fintech, and marketing technology Six of the winning companies are new to the list, 12 are repeat winners, and three are ranked in the top 100 nationally.
Here are just a few examples that stand out: One winning company, Gamesight, provides technology to help games find commercial success. Another, Vouched, specializes in AI-driven identity verification, transforming the way businesses authenticate and onboard customers. And yet another, Amperity, delivers the data confidence brands need to unlock growth by truly knowing their customers.
Gaining insight and inspiration from top tech CEOs
We celebrated the region’s Fast 500 winners at an award ceremony this past November. The event kicked off with a panel discussion, moderated by GeekWire Co-Founder John Cook, with executives from five of our Fast 500 winning companies:
- Nick Geisse, CEO, Curi Bio
- Peter Horadan, Co-Founder & CEO, Vouched
- Adam Lieb, CEO, Gamesight
- Tisson Mathew, President & CEO, SkyPoint
- Rathna Sharad, Founder and CEO, FlavorCloud
Each speaker highlighted the factors that have been integral to their rapid growth. Geisse emphasized the importance of face-to-face time in a world filled with remote and hybrid work models. “When we hire people, no matter the position, we make sure they spend time with me and the co-founder,” he said. Horadan spoke about how customer delight is a catalyst for growth, explaining, “Delivering an experience that customers love and tell others about—that is what drives growth.”
Both Lieb and Mathew stressed patience and persistence as critical to success. As Lieb explained, “If you stick around doing the same thing long enough, it will ultimately pay off.” Matthew echoed this sentiment as he advocated taking a long-term view. “If you think short term,” he said, “You’re probably not going to make the right decisions.” Sharad underscored the importance of “thinking big,” extolling the virtue of asking, “How do you add 10X, not the incremental 10%?”
All panelists credited the Pacific Northwest tech ecosystem as instrumental to their growth, describing the region as “shockingly supportive,” “unique,” and “a great place to start a company.”
