A newly formed coalition of companies from e-commerce, travel, employment and other sectors plans to work together against a common problem across their industries: fraudulent online reviews.

The new Coalition for Trusted Reviews was announced Tuesday morning by  Amazon, Booking.com, Expedia Group, Glassdoor, Tripadvisor, and Trustpilot. The companies say they “will define best practices for hosting online reviews and sharing methods of fake review detection, aiming to stop fake reviews at the source.”

Amazon, which has filed a series of lawsuits against fake review brokers, stressed the need for more coordination and information-sharing among key industry players and law enforcement in a “blueprint” published last year.

The inclusion of Booking.com, Expedia Group and Tripadvisor is notable for covering a wide swath of the online travel industry, as an example of three main rivals in the sector working together on a shared challenge.

The companies in the coalition met in October 2022 at the first “Fake Reviews Conference,” organized by Tripadvisor, and will convene again under the same umbrella at a second annual conference in December, organized by Amazon.
