Lost Lake Games, a new Seattle startup led by longtime gaming industry leaders, raised $5 million.

Esports and gaming-focused VC firm Bitkraft Ventures led the round, which included Lightspeed Venture Partners, Moon Holdings, and 1Up Ventures, the firm co-founded by former Xbox exec Ed Fries.

A SEC filing revealed the funding last month, and now the company is announcing the round.

Lost Lake describes itself as “an independent studio committed to making games that blaze new trails and spark your next adventure.” The company appears to be building cross-platform games but is otherwise quiet about what it is exactly making.

Lost Lake has some serious game development chops. Its CEO and co-founder, James Phinney, was a lead designer and producer for StarCraft, and also was an exec at ArenaNet, Undead Labs, and Motiga.

“Lost Lake is not tied to a single platform or genre but rather to a core belief that empowering talented individuals and fostering a culture of collaboration leads to incredible games,” Phinney said in a statement.

Other co-founders include:

  • Katy Hargrove, a longtime animator and artist who was art lead for Guild Wars 2 and also worked for Valve and Warner Bros.
  • Patrick Corwin, a former technical artist at ArenaNet and Motiga.
  • Joe Pikop, a former character artist for Rockstar who also spent time at ArenaNet and Motiga.
  • Mark Pottorf, a former lead programmer at Airtight Games who was most recently at Highwire Games.
