The Tacoma Maritime Innovation Incubator, an initiative of Washington state’s Maritime Blue economic program, has announced its second cohort.

The incubator selects companies that can provide innovation and jobs for communities in the southern reaches of Puget Sound, and is based at the Center for Urban Waters in Tacoma. The startups will have access to mentors, networking and programming opportunities to help grow their businesses.

Maritime Blue is a Washington state public-private coalition promoting marine-related technologies and gender and racial diversity in the sector. It also runs the Maritime Blue Innovation Accelerator, which is now in its third year.

Here are the five companies and one community-member organization participating in the innovation incubator:

Air Mobility (Tacoma) — Building bladeless propulsion technology for water, air and land transportation.

Homeostasis Systems (Tacoma) — Developing atmospheric carbon capture technology that will turn the CO2 into industrial products.

WhyGrene (Seattle) — Creating a clean energy exchange marketplace using blockchain technology.

Innov8social (Tacoma) — A program supporting innovators and “social entrepreneurs” through hackathon events, media content and books.

Kara Technology (France) — Providing touch screens, software and boating assistance technologies for shipyards and boaters.

Terrestrious (University Place, Wash.) — This community-member organization uses crowd sourcing to share ideas and resources to address challenges including climate change.
